About Sickle Strong
Sickle Strong, Sickle Cell Empowerment Circle is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to empowering adults living with Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) in the metropolitan Detroit area.
Founded in 2016 by CEO Kristian Garrison and President Versetta Brown, Sickle Strong is unique in that it is created for and run 100% by SCD patients. This lived experience is the core of our mission, ensuring all programs are authentically designed to meet the complex needs of the community.
We are committed to facilitating pathways that combat the mental, physical, and spiritual damage caused by SCD, ultimately helping adults achieve lives filled with passion, purpose, and integrity.
As an organization fully reliant on community support, we depend on financial contributions and in-kind donations to sustain and expand our crucial operations.
Mission
Empowering Sickle Cell Warriors to reclaim their lives by facilitating pathways to quality care, healing, and holistic well-being for adults managing Sickle Cell Disease. Our goal is to transform lives by addressing the physical, mental, and spiritual toll of this disease, so that every individual can live with
passion, purpose, and integrity.
Vision
Our vision for the future is the ultimate elimination of crisis-level care inequality for Sickle Cell Disease, ensuring all patients are met with dignity, belief, and urgent, life-saving treatment, so that preventable fatalities are avoided.
We will realize this vision by utilizing the knowledge gained through monthly meetings, educational workshops, community resources, our partners in healthcare, and patient support.
