About Sickle Strong
Sickle Strong, Sickle Cell Empowerment Circle is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to empowering adults living with Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) in the metropolitan Detroit area.
founded in 2016 by CEO Kristian Garrison and President Versetta Brown to stand in the gap of transition into adulthood, which can feel like stepping into an entirely different world let alone healthcare system.
We recognized that adults living with Sickle Cell Disease needed more than medical treatment. They needed a community that understood the complicated intersection of chronic illness, adulthood, employment, parenthood, financial responsibility, mental and emotional wellness, and everyday life.
We want adults living with SCD to know that their diagnosis does not diminish their purpose, their potential, or their value.
Mission
Empowering Sickle Cell Warriors to reclaim their lives by facilitating pathways to quality care, healing, and holistic well-being for adults managing Sickle Cell Disease. Through advocacy, education, support, resources, and community, we seek to equip individuals with the tools they need to navigate life's most difficult intersections with grace, strength, dignity, and rescilience.
